We had a very busy week with Halloween on Thursday! I love getting ready and preparing for holidays like Halloween because the little monkeys just get so excited and have so much fun! We wore costumes and had a few treats, including the cute little cupcakes Natalie made for us. There was no school for Prairie South and Holy Trinity Catholic School divisions Friday so I had most of my monkeys for the whole day the day after Halloween. I know the day after Halloween night is a day to chill and take it easy because little monkeys are tired and full of sugar so we had a pajama day!! We stayed in our jammies and watched a movie during our afternoon quiet time. One last thing I wanted to mention is that we have two new friends who have joined our daycare family in October so we welcome them and look forward to playing and learning together with them!!!

This morning it was so warm and beautiful, so outside we went. All three of the little monkeys who came to play today were loving it!! Playing in the snow is so much fun, especially when it is wet and sticky. We used the shovels to move some snow and the pails to build a little snow village. We even developed some teamwork skills by working together to roll snowballs and make a little snowman. When it was time to come in for lunch I had to give them a little more time because they really did not want to come inside!
Anyone who knows me most likely knows I am NOT a fan of winter!!!!! Actually, it is really just the driving that I hate in the winter!! I like doing other activities like going for walks, geocaching, and I don't even mind shoveling. If it is nice enough to play with the little monkeys, you bet we are going to be outside!!!
We had tons of fun outside with all the toys and the pool, and water toys in the summer, but the snow is different and like having a new thing to play with. The little ones are excited all over again, when we get to play outside in the snow. They like just walking through it and playing with the toys in it. Most of the time they don't even realize that they are getting cold because they are loving the snow so much. For a few of them, I have to remind them that it is important to wear their toques and mitts when we are inside getting ready but once we get outside they forget about all the layers and extra clothing and just enjoy playing outside. Sometimes they could play outside almost as long as we did in the summer. I can't wait to do more things with them like making snow angels and snowpeople. I am going to invest in some more outdoor shovels and pails and toys like that. Right now they are still in that new phase where the snow is just something new to play with and fun as it is but the further into winter we go the more I will look for and share ideas we try, like snow paint or homemade ornaments. I actually can't believe that I am even a little excited to spend the winter playing outside with my little monkeys!!! So I have a few picky little eaters. They all love different kinds of fruit but most of them will not eat vegetables and I've pretty much tried them all. Cucumbers, bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, peas, beans........ and many more. So today I didn't think my homemade chicken noodle soup would be such a hit but it was!!! For the past few days there has been a cold going around all of the kids, including a cough, and lots of runny noses. I have not only tried to disinfect the house but thought what better way to fight off this cold bug then making homemade chicken noodle soup. I found this great recipe on Pintrest which took me to this website averiecooks.com. It was pretty easy and the picky eaters I have loved every last drop (including the vegetables)!!!!!!
I know I am a bit late because we have had a very busy weekend but we did this activity on Friday. It was a rainy morning and both of the little monkeys I had were not feeling well so we stayed inside in the morning and I decided to try out this recipe for what I call "goop". At first the little guy I had here who is almost three looked at me like I was crazy touching the slimey stuff but Addyson loved it and dug in right away. She wasn't as disgusted by it and once the little guy saw us having fun playing with it he started to dig in, although he was still unsure about it :). I gave them spoons and cups and Popsicle sticks just to try different ways to play in it but they preferred their hands because it gets soft and liquidy in their hands. The recipe was so easy and only took two ingredients and I found the directions on instructables.com.
I used:
We only used a bowl because there are only two little monkeys but when I have more I will use a clear square tub and next time use decorative stones or glitter or many different things to make it even more fun. I kept it in a ziploc bag and it is still as fun as the day we made it. And clean up was even easy! Water cleaned up the bowls and spoons and stuff and the little bit that fell on the floor. We used hand soap and water to wash our hands to get rid of the tinge of blue from mixing the food colouring in but again so simple. I love this stuff because it looks like a mess and there is the potential for more mess I'm sure hahaha but it was super easy to make and clean up!!!!! I know a couple little more monkeys who will love to play with this stuff and can't wait to make it again!! What a perfect way to cool off in the afternoon heat!!!! We played with our sprinkler buddy today because it was so hot and I wanted to get these little monkeys used to playing in the water so they enjoy going to the spray pad nearby when it opens this summer. I bought this sprinkler from Walmart for I think maybe $15 and the kids love it!!!! He has little tube arms that when the water is turned full blast move around and spray water all over. Because I just had the small kiddies I did not turn the water on all the way so the arms and antennas sprayed up but did not twist and move all crazy. At first they were not sure about it and the water was freezing but once they tested it out they got brave and both of them were laughing and running around in the water.
